Evaluations

If you are concerned about any of the following speech and language developmental skills, call for a consultation to determine what type of evaluation may be most appropriate for your child.

  • Expressive Language Development - ability to speak

  • Receptive Language Development - ability to comprehend

  • Speech Articulation Development - pronunciation

  • Fluency - stuttering

  • Social Communication - use of language in social contexts

Evaluations are scheduled from 1.5 to 2 hours, including a parent interview, clinical observations, and a dynamic assessment using both informal testing measures as well as standardized formal assessments. Following the evaluation, results will be shared and discussed to determine if your child qualifies for speech and language therapy.

Treatment

Individualized speech and language therapy services are provided for children 12 months of age to 21 years. Following a full dynamic speech and language evaluation, your therapist will discuss if speech and/or language therapy is recommended for your child. UpWord Speech Therapy is able to treat a range of delays and disorders, including speech sound disorders, receptive and expressive language disorders, apraxia of speech, fluency disorders, developmental delays, genetic syndromes, autism spectrum disorder, as well as nonverbal and minimally verbal children. Parents are encouraged to join in therapy sessions in order to learn strategies to apply at home. Therapy sessions range from 30 to 60 minutes, primarily formed as 1:1 and some group therapy opportunities available.

Speech and language screenings are available at your child's school. A typical screening lasts approximately 15-30 minutes and the purpose of a screening is to determine if further assessment is needed.
