Speech & Language Evaluations
If you’re concerned about your child’s speech or language development, we can help determine which evaluation is most appropriate. Common areas we assess include:

Expressive Language Development – your child’s ability to speak

Receptive Language Development – your child’s ability to understand language

Speech Articulation – pronunciation and clarity of speech

Fluency – stuttering or speech flow

Social Communication – using language in social contexts

What to expect during an evaluation:

Duration: 1.5–2 hours

Parent interview

Clinical observations

Dynamic assessment using both informal and standardized measures

After the evaluation, results will be reviewed with you, and we’ll discuss whether your child qualifies for speech and language therapy.

Therapy Treatment
At UpWord Speech Therapy, we provide individualized therapy for children ages 12 months to 21 years. After a comprehensive evaluation, your therapist will review the results and discuss whether speech and/or language therapy is recommended for your child.
We treat a wide range of speech and language challenges, including:

Speech sound disorders

What therapy looks like:

Parent involvement: Parents are encouraged to join sessions to learn strategies that can be practiced at home.

Session length: 30–60 minutes, typically one-on-one, with some group therapy opportunities.

Individualized approach: Each plan is tailored to your child’s unique needs, strengths, and goals.
Screenings
We offer speech and language screenings at select schools and organizations in the greater Indianapolis area. Screenings are a quick way to determine if a child may benefit from a full evaluation.

Duration: 15–30 minutes per screening

Purpose: Identify if further assessment is needed

Setting: Individual children or groups at schools, daycares, or community programs
